February 26, 2002. Cambridge, MA. Harvard University janitors and students engaged in civil disobedience by blocking traffic on Massachusetts Ave. in front of Harvard University during rush hour to protest the poverty faced by low-wage workers at the world's wealthiest university and Harvard's failure to offer a new contract with fair wages and affordable family health insurance. Janitors at Harvard are now paid as little as $9.75 an hour while area universities such as MIT and Boston University pay janitors more than $14.00 hour.
